Eldritch Thoughts

Recent News and Updates

Welcome to Eldritch Thoughts. My name is Benjamin Eldritch, and I'll be your storyteller for the length of your stay.

You have entered, as much as is possible, the realm of my imagination. It is here that I present and embody the stories that constantly play through my head. Of the many mediums used to reach that elusive goal of presenting what wants to be heard, I have at my disposal only the English language. I am neither a composer nor an artist, so it will suffice.

Updates for the Past Week

And I return again. The writing I was talking about... a year and a half ago has died off a bit, as most of my creative work has been on game design. Serinor's blog has had many, many more updates than this front page has had. I tried to keep this area geared towards writing updates, but that seems silly by this point.

Anyway, I figured I should check in before I made actual changes. Circle of Scorpion has been removed from my online archives. It's significantly different in tone and style (though the story remains roughly unchanged) now that I'm going through and rewriting it with four-odd years more writing experience to the point where the original drafts are almost embarassing. So it has been taken down.

This also frees up some space. I'll likely use it for Serinor files, but I may have a secondary project in the works that can use some of it as well.

It has been a very long time since I was here last. And a very many things have happened since. I graduated. I got married. I kept writing. Some other stuff happened in between too, I think, but it was a long time ago.

It's the last one that causes me the most worry, however. This was a nice venue to pretend that my work was making it out into a public forum, but now that I'm out in what I'm told is "The Real World," it would be nice to receive some form of payment for all the work I put into this. I understand that data wants to be free and all that, but until society decides to subsedize the existence of its creative class, we must operate within the confines of our capitalist system. Or until I'm independantly wealthy. Whichever comes first.

The point is that Circle of Scorpion has reached the point where I'm working on final editing and revision in preparation for its commecial publication. Iridescent Dreams is going on indefinite hiatus during this process, not that it wasn't already there. Though I haven't done so yet, the archives for CoS will likely be coming down in the near future. Iridia won't be receiving similar treatment, though some of the stories in my hoard might. Just thought I should put that out there. And in reality, when and if Iridia gets started up again, it will continue to be in its current format. Free and serial.

I think that's all for now. I don't believe anybody reads any of this anymore, but for new visitors or old friends checking back in, I decided I needed at least some statement of the way things are now. That's all. Eldritch out.

I, and an elite cadre of immensely awesome people who agreed to help me, continue to make progress on Epic of Serinor. You can now access the Developer's Log and Online Manual from the navigation bar on your left. Managing a team of developers is an odd experience for me, and one to which I'm not innately suited, but one that I'm getting the feel for and, if not growing to like much, becoming proficient at.

In other news, one of my professors finally stumbled across this little corner of the web and complimented me on it. The irony of this is that it was a computer science professor, not a writing professor. But it is still cause for celebration. As such, I'd like to point out that the lexical analyzer that I programmed for my compiler is, as far as I am able to determine, quite good, and I say this as a statement of fact as opposed to a form of boasting.

Well, summer has been spent, and I've had little to show for myself. This period of seeming inactivity has, however, come to a close. The initial release of my personal project, Epic of Serinor, an old-style video game, has been released for public perusal. It was created using the VERGE game creation engine, and the people over in the VERGE community have had generally nice things to say about it. The things they've said that aren't so nice are things that, largely, I already knew were bad anyway. So it worked out well.

However, those who long for more writings to come from my pen are going to be disappointed. Between Serinor and school, which has started again, are occupying pretty much all of my time. So... Yeah.

In other news, I turned 22 yesterday. Happy birthday, me.
